Fatal Motorcycle, Car Accident Highway 49 at Big Bar Road in Mokelumne Hill
MOKELUMNE HILL, California (June 12, 2017) — One person was killed Monday afternoon in a collision between a red and white Ducati motorcycle and a car at State Route Highway 49 at Big Bar Road, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 3:20 p.m. in this Calaveras County town near the bridge over the North Fork Mokelumne River. The roadway was blocked after the crash and remained partially closed for the police investigation into liability. It’s unclear what led to the crash based on the limited facts in the CHP report.
When a fatal collision involves a motorcyclist, police will interview all other parties involved and try to piece together what happened based on their side of the story, witness accounts and evidence at the scene. It’s important to have an independent investigator conduct a secondary investigation into what happened. While criminal charges could be filed if there were drugs and or alcohol involved, a victim or their family must separately make a claim for a civil lawsuit. This would compensate them for financial losses such as medical bills and loss of income.
