Vehicle Cuts Across All Lanes and Hits and Kills Motorcyclist Near State Route 73
COSTA MESA, Calif. (July 2, 2024) — A fatal motorcycle crash happened Tuesday afternoon on the 405 Freeway near State Route 73 in Costa Mesa California.
The traffic accident occurred at around 2:31 PM on July 2nd 2024, according to the California Highway Patrol.
An unknown SUV cut across all lanes of the 405 Freeway and collided into a motorcyclist that was traveling in the fast lane. The motorcycle rider was reported to be down on the ground and bleeding, and later reported dead on the scene. The motorcycle itself was reported to be on fire while the unknown vehicle responsible for the crash was stopped in the center divide of the freeway. CHP advised that the fast lane be closed right away following the crash, in addition an advisory for a large abundance of smoke in the area went out as well.
Tow trucks were requested on the scene in addition to an ambulance. Paramedics arrived quickly on the scene and located all those who were injured and transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries.
Investigators are working to determine who is at fault for the fatal crash on the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa.
