Motorcyclist Killed in Crash with SUV on State Route 29
NAPA COUNTY, Calif. (June 20, 2024) — A motorcycle rider died in a crash on Highway 29 early Thursday morning, just north of the Robert Mondavi Winery in Oakville, in the Napa Valley.
The deadly collision occurred at around 5:49 a.m. on June 20th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch report. Police requested the road close between Highway 128 and Oakville Cross Road.
CHP dispatchers reported the collision involved a motorcyclist and a black Mercedes SUV. It’s unknown at this time what led up to the accident, but the report indicated the SUV had moderate front-end damage. The rider suffered major injuries and died on scene.
The Napa County Sheriff’s Office called for the coroner to respond within a few minutes after the collision.
Dispatchers reported both the northbound and southbound lanes of State Route 29 were blocked by the vehicles and emergency responders. Police issued a SigAlert due to the traffic collision at around 6:19 a.m. due to the traffic collision.
Carls Body Shop removed the Mercedes SUV and Los Prados Tow took the motorcycle from the roadway.
The traffic accident remains under investigation to determine fault.
Meanwhile, witnesses should reach out to the CHP and or the Napa County Sheriff’s Office.
