Motorcyclist Killed in Car Accident on Old Highway 80 in San Diego County
CAMPO, Calif. (June 4, 2024) — A fatal motorcycle crash happened Monday afternoon on Old Highway 80 at Church Road and Golden Acorn Way near the Golden Acorn Casino.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 5:48 p.m. on June 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a 78-year-old Imperial woman was heading south in a gold Toyota Corolla sedan when she reportedly turned into the casino parking lot and was hit by the northbound motorcyclist, the report said.
The 54-year-old Ramona man riding a 2022 Harley Davidson went down in traffic lanes and died at the scene of the crash.
California Department of Fire sent paramedics who confirmed the victim’s death, but the victim’s identity has not been released.
The elderly woman was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
It’s unknown at this time if the Toyota stopped for posted stop signs before entering Old Highway 80. If the motorcyclist was traveling on Old Highway 80, the rider did not have to stop. Unfortunately, there are also curves in the roadway on both sides of the intersection that might have made it difficult for the driver in the car to see the oncoming motorcycle rider.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Office and CHP officials responded to the scene and are heading up the investigation.
