Fatal Motorcycle Crash on 215 Freeway at Harley Knox Blvd., in Perris
Daniel Bernston, 40, Killed; Second Motorcyclist Injured
RIVERSIDE COUNTY — Daniel Bernston, 40, died Tuesday after a crash between two motorcyclists and then a car on the Interstate 215 Freeway in Perris.
The Perris man reportedly survived the initial collision, but landed in the path of an oncoming car and was fatally struck as he was getting up.
The collision involving two motorcyclists and then a car versus motorcycle happened around 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the I-215 at Harley Knox Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Daniel Bernston was reportedly riding his 1997 Harley-Davidson when a 2006 Suzuki GSXR reportedly may have entered the same lane on the freeway.
The Harley and Suzuki collided, but detectives are working to determine the sequence of the impact. Both riders lost control of the motorcycles and were thrown off onto the freeway. The Harley-Davidson landed on the shoulder of northbound I-215 at the off-ramp.
Daniel Bernston landed close to the motorcycle, and as he stood up, he was hit by a 2017 Toyota Camry as it was exiting the freeway, the CHP said.
The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley. However, despite efforts to save his life he died about an hour later at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Suzuki rider suffered major injuries and was also taken to the Moreno Valley trauma center for treatment.
The Toyota driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
