Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on State Route 79 Near Aguanga Ranchos Road
SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA (August 23, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed after a DUI crash on State Route 79 in San Diego County.
The San Diego Union-Tribune wrote that the tragic accident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Officers reported the wreck on August 22 at about 3:25 p.m.
The incident began when a 33-year-old San Diego man was riding a 1991 Harley Davidson Sportster south on State Route 79 in the county.
At the same time, a 2002 Toyota Tundra was going north. The car then swerved off the east side of the highway and overcorrected, south of Aguanga Ranchos Road.
Motorcycle Rider Hit by DUI Driver
The Toyota veered across the northbound and southbound lanes and went into the path of the motorcycle. The two then collided near the northern end of Palomar Mountain.
The California Highway Patrol said the rider ended up ejected from his bike upon impact. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and found him lying on the ground as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the male driver of the Tundra was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the motorcyclist. They arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
Officers forced the southbound lanes of State Route 79 near Aguanga Ranchos to shut down for hours following the wreck. The fatal crash is still under investigation.
