Two Children Ages 4 and 8 Years Old Killed in Crash
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Dec. 11, 2023) — Just two weeks before Christmas, a police pursuit crash claimed the lives of two young children Sunday night on the Interstate 805 Freeway at the 43rd Street off-ramp in Mountain View.
The deadly crash happened shortly after police attempted to pull over a BMW at around 6:14 p.m. at the intersection of 32nd Street and Oceanview Boulevard, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Police attempted to pull over a speeding BMW driven by 20-year-old Angel Daniel Salgado Velasquez, but he led them on a five-minute pursuit. He entered the southbound I-805 and then attempted to exit the freeway at the 43rd Street off ramp, but crashed into a Honda.
The BMW caused the Honda to crash into a tree down an embankment. The tree fell onto the car and it caught on fire. Two women and two children ages four and eight years old were in the Honda.
The 25-year-old mother of the two boys, her 29-year-old female friend and both children were transported to a hospital with major injuries. Unfortunately, both children later died at the hospital. The boys were ages 8 and 4 years old, but were not identified.
Meanwhile, police say that Angel Velasquez exited his BMW and fled the scene, but was later located and arrested on multiple charges.
Witnesses to the fatal Mountain View crash are asked to call the CHP San Diego Area Office at 858-293-6000.
