Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash 805 Freeway South, Interstate 8 in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif., (March 3, 2026) — A tragic accident involving multiple vehicles resulted in a fatality early Tuesday morning on Interstate 805 South near the Interstate 8 transition in San Diego. Officials reported the incident, which began as a car fire, escalated to a fatal crash involving four vehicles.
The accident occurred on March 3rd around 6:03 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision involved a box truck and a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup, along with a semi-truck. The semi-truck reportedly caught fire and exploded, leading to a significant emergency response.

Responders quickly arrived at the scene, where they found the semi-truck hanging precariously over the bridge above I-8, with large flames emanating from the vehicle. Despite their efforts, the driver of the semi-truck succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the deceased has yet to be released pending notification of family.
Hazardous materials crews were deployed to manage the scene due to the potential for environmental damage from spilled diesel fuel and debris. The accident necessitated the closure of several lanes on I-805 South and the transition to I-8, causing major traffic disruptions throughout the morning.
