Father, 41, and his Son, 9, Killed in Hemet Crash
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (June 10, 2026) — A man and child both died and others were injured following a multi-vehicle crash on the Ramona Expressway and Lincoln Avenue in East Hemet.
UPDATE: Nicholas McWhirter, 41, of Covina, and his 9-year-old son, Dominic, both died in the Hemet crash, according to a Riverside Sheriff’s Office coroner report.
The deadly collision, involving at least three vehicles, happened around 5:56 p.m. on June 9, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials and Riverside County firefighters responded to the scene following an iPhone notification from one of the involved parties.
Upon arrival, emergency crews found a white Ford Mustang and a silver vehicle in a ditch, as well as a silver Nissan Rogue blocking the roadway.
A silver sedan reportedly overturned several times and wound up in the ditch. A driver and juvenile were located in a silver sedan with no pulse and at least one was a fatality, the CHP reported. The Jaws of Life were used to extricate some of the victims from their vehicles.
Investigators closed down the Ramona Expressway between Florida Avenue and Charleston Avenue to clear the roadway and work to determine liability for the collision.
