COALINGA, Calif., (June 17, 2026) — A multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck in Coalinga on the Interstate 5 Freeway, near Jayne Avenue, resulted in a fatality and left several others injured on Wednesday afternoon.

The devastating chain-reaction accident occurred on June 17th at approximately 12:06 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-5, just north of Jayne Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a jack-knifed semi-truck was involved in the crash alongside several other vehicles, including a silver Mercedes and a white Honda CR-V. The collision caused significant blockage of the roadway, leading to severe traffic congestion.
The report stated that the semi-truck rear-ended the Mercedes-Benz, causing the car to hit a Mazda SUV, and both smaller vehicles were totaled.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Firefighters worked diligently to extricate Ding Li from one of the vehicles. Paramedics were dispatched to provide medical assistance to those injured. Tragically, the crash resulted in the woman’s death. Among the injured, three individuals were reportedly hurt, including Maya Jimenez, who was in the silver Mercedes.
The collision initially caused traffic to divert around the scene using the right-hand shoulder, as both lanes were obstructed by the wreckage. Tow trucks were later called to clear the totaled vehicles, including the Mercedes and a Mazda SUV.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash and urge any witnesses to come forward with information that may aid their investigation.
