Fiery Collision on I-5 Freeway in Tustin
TUSTIN, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2024) — A fatal multi-vehicle crash happened Monday on the northbound Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Tustin Ranch Road in Tustin.
The traffic accident occurred around 3:10 a.m. on Nov. 25th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
CHP officials were first alerted by an automated message system about the crash. A dark-colored SUV crashed into the center divider wall and overturned onto its roof in the fast lane.
Someone called 911 to report a red sedan was driving recklessly prior to the collision. Next, a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck crashed into the blacked-out overturned SUV. The overturned SUV caught on fire and became fully engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, as many as six other vehicles either collided with one another or hit debris including a driver in a black 2025 Toyota Camry.
Tow trucks removed at least four vehicles including the overturned SUV and a red Hyundai Santa Fe for evidence.
Paramedics responded and confirmed at least one person dead. It’s unknown how many others were injured in the crash on the 5 Freeway in Tustin.
Caltrans responded due to a 10-foot section of the concrete center divider needing replacement. Debris also crossed into southbound lanes of the freeway.
All traffic lanes reopened by 7:33 a.m. and investigators will continue to work on the case to determine liability for the crash.
