Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on 55 Freeway, SR-22 in Orange

ORANGE, Calif., (July 28, 2026) — A multi-vehicle collision in Orange resulted in a fatality late Monday night on the southbound Costa Mesa 55 Freeway, just north of State Route 22.
The incident was reported on July 27th at approximately 11:03 p.m., involving a total of five vehicles, including a black Jeep that was found on its side. Preliminary reports suggest that a person may have been ejected from one of the vehicles and was found lying in the slow lane. All lanes were initially blocked, causing significant traffic congestion as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and other emergency services arrived promptly, with units dispatched and arriving on-site within minutes. Tow services were called in to remove the damaged vehicles, including a Hyundai Sonata with front-end damage and a Mercedes sedan.
Details regarding the deceased individual, including their identity, are yet to be released pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities seeking any witnesses who might have seen the crash occur.
