Pedestrian Struck, Killed on I-5 Freeway in National City
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (August 26, 2021) — A fatal National City pedestrian accident happened on the Interstate 5 Freeway near the Interstate 15 interchange.
A person was struck and killed by a motorist who appears to have fled the scene.
Additionally, the crash happened around 4:51 a.m. on northbound I-5 near Division Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian went down in the fast lane of the freeway and two vehicles pulled over in the center divider. Someone saw the person running from the right shoulder towards the center divider prior to the collision.
Meanwhile, investigators are piecing together evidence and statements by witnesses. Authorities are investigating the National City pedestrian accident as a hit-and-run crash. The identity of the person killed in the collision is unknown. Also, police did not mention the gender or age of the person.
CHP officials requested a freeway closure of at least two lanes due to the fatal crash.
