Deadly Fourth of July Car Accident
NEWMAN, Calif. (July 4, 2024) — A fatal crash left one dead and four injured in Newman Thursday at Canal School Road and West Sanches Road.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 4:35 p.m. on July 4th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported a 22-year-old Seaside man driving a grey Nissan sedan and a 36-year-old Justin Borges of Stockton driving a tan Chevrolet Tahoe were involved. The Nissan was southbound when its driver reportedly veered across the double yellow lines into the path of the Tahoe. One of the vehicles caught on fire. Both vehicles also overturned onto their sides.
Paramedics responded and confirmed the younger man dead following the collision. Authorities say he was not wearing a seatbelt. His passenger was critically injured.
Also, both Justin Borges and his passenger, Brianne Borges, from the Tahoe, were critically injured and hospitalized. Their two-year-old child survived with undisclosed injuries.
Tow trucks removed the two vehicles for evidence.
Meanwhile, investigators are working to determine fault for the Newman crash on Canal School Road.
