Fatal Newport Beach Crash San Miguel Drive, MacArthur Blvd.

Driver Killed Crashing into Stopped Vehicles at Intersection

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (May 20, 2026) — Dean Scott Foes, 68, has died after he crashed into several other vehicles Tuesday afternoon that were stopped at San Miguel Drive and MacArthur Boulevard in Newport Beach.

The collision, which occurred around 4:05 p.m. on May 19th, set off a chain-reaction crash among a total of six vehicles, according to a press release issued by the Newport Beach Police Department.

Police stated the 68-year-old Newport Beach man was driving a black Toyota Corolla westbound on San Miguel Drive, approaching MacArthur Boulevard. The Toyota collided with several stopped vehicles waiting at the red light. An Audi !5 was pushed into the intersection where it hit a Nissan that was turning onto northbound MacArthur.

Upon arrival to the scene, police and emergency crews located the Toyota with major damage and began helping the driver in the Toyota. He was then transported by ambulance to Mission Hospital where he later died from his injuries. A second person had complaints of pain and was taken to Hoag Hospital. There were no other immediate injuries reported on scene.

The identity of the man who died will be released by the Orange County Coroner’s Office after relatives are notified.

Witnesses should contact Nate Farris, a NBPD traffic investigator, at 1-949-644-3746.
