Fatal Norwalk Crash Interstate 5 Freeway, Carmenita Road
Two Passengers Killed in Crash, Driver Arrested DUI
NORWALK, Calif. (Dec. 5, 2023) – A fatal Norwalk crash happened early Tuesday morning on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway near the Carmenita Road off ramp.
The deadly crash occurred at around 1:35 a.m. on Dec. 5th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported 19-year-old Landon Hazelwood was driving a Honda Accord that collided with the back of a parked semi-truck on the shoulder of the freeway. Two of his passenger died at the scene of the collision, police said. Lance Paul Erskine, 20, of Fountain Valley, was identified as one of the passengers who died.
Meanwhile, police determined the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and or drugs at the time of the accident and arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
Police issued a SigAlert and closed down all southbound traffic lanes for several hours to investigate the circumstances of the Norwalk crash on the 5 Freeway.
