Skateboarder Killed in Hit-and-run Crash in Oakhurst

 Fatal Oakhurst Skateboard Accident Road 427, Elliott Drive (July 7)OAKHURST, Calif. (July 7, 2021) — A fatal Oakhurst skateboard accident happened Wednesday night on Road 427 near Elliott Drive.

A driver struck and killed a 20-year-old man riding a skateboard and fled the scene without stopping to help him, according to Sierra News.

The collision happened about 11:54 p.m. as the young man rode his skateboard behind two other people westbound on Road 427.

A driver in an dark-colored SUV traveling westbound behind the skateboarder struck him from behind at an unknown speed. The impact caused the young man to fall off his skateboard and onto the roadway.

Meanwhile, the SUV driver never stopped to help him and fled the scene of the fatal Oakhurst skateboard accident.

The two others riding with the victim stopped and someone called 911 for help.

The Merced Communication Center (MCC) received the call and sent paramedics. They also alerted the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Oakhurst Area station.

Both responded to the scene to help the victim, but sadly the skateboarder died at the scene.

Investigators are looking for the suspect in a dark colored SUV-type vehicle similar to that of a Jeep Cherokee or Toyota 4Runner. The vehicle had round yellow headlights and rectangular taillights.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the suspect should contact the CHP Oakhurst Area station at (559) 658-6590 or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498- STOP (7867).
