Deadly Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-580 Freeway

OAKLAND, Calif. (May 17, 2024) — A fatal, multi-vehicle crash happened early Friday morning in Oakland on the Interstate 580 Freeway at the Grand Avenue off ramp.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash on the eastbound side of the Interstate 580 Freeway at around 12:20 a.m. on May 17th, 2024.

The drivers of a red Nissan pickup truck and a silver Toyota pickup truck reportedly side-swiped one another while changing lanes. The Toyota truck overturned and went over a freeway guardrail.

The driver in the Toyota reportedly sustained fatal injuries, but authorities did not release the victim’s name at this time.

The driver in the red Nissan sustained moderate injuries in the crash.

Investigators are working to determine fault for the 580 Freeway crash in Oakland.
