Multi-Vehicle Fatal Oakland Crash on I-880 Freeway
OAKLAND, Calif. (August 15, 2022) — A fatal Oakland crash happened Monday morning on the Interstate 880 Freeway near the 66th Avenue off ramp.
The collision involving multiple motorists occurred about 2:58 a.m. on August 15th, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The drivers of a red or maroon Toyota Camry and a Nissan Xterra SUV were among up to six vehicles involved in the crash. The Nissan apparently overturned in the collision.
At least one person died in the collision, but there are no specific details.
Meanwhile, authorities issued a SigAlert and the Oakland Police Department responded to help with traffic control. They diverted traffic off the freeway at 66th Avenue until tow trucks removed the vehicles and cleared the roadway. They canceled the SigAlert about 5:25 a.m.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
