Fatal Oakland Crash on I-580 Freeway, Lakeshore Avenue

OAKLAND, Calif., (April 30, 2026) — An early morning crash on I-580 Freeway near Lakeshore Avenue in Oakland resulted in a fatality and the closure of all westbound lanes, authorities reported. The incident was logged at approximately 2:34 a.m. on April 30th and involved multiple vehicles.

According to initial reports by the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred in the westbound lanes of I-580, just east of Lakeshore Avenue. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene where they discovered a white sedan and a pickup truck involved in the crash. An SUV and a brown BMW sedan were also reportedly involved in the accident.

The CHP issued a SigAlert following the incident, closing all lanes of I-580 West. The lanes remained closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation and clean-up operations. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office was notified and later arrived at the scene.

At this time, the identity and age of the deceased individual have not been disclosed, pending notification of next of kin. The CHP is actively investigating the circumstances leading to the crash and urges any witnesses to come forward with information.
