Pedestrian Struck, Killed on I-880
OAKLAND, Calif. (July 13, 2023) — A FedEx semi-truck struck and killed a pedestrian in Oakland early Thursday on the Interstate 880 Freeway.
The deadly 3:39 a.m. crash on July 13th occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 880, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The driver struck the female pedestrian in the slow lane of the freeway, just north of the 23rd Avenue off-ramp, according to the CHP report.
Witnesses told authorities the victim was seen crossing from the center divider to the right shoulder prior to the collision. There were no broken down vehicles in the area, the report said.
Police issued a SigAlert around 3:49 a.m. and closed down the southbound lanes of the freeway at 16th Avenue.
An investigation into the fatal Oakland pedestrian accident is underway.
