Mother Killed; 4 Injured in Crash Involving Unlicensed Driver
ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 30, 2024) — A woman is dead after an unlicensed driver allegedly ran a red light and broadsided an SUV in a fatal crash at Tustin Street and Collins Avenue.
The mother’s 13-year-old daughter was among three others in the same SUV who were seriously injured. The suspect in the other vehicle was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The deadly, two-vehicle crash occurred around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29th, according to the Orange County Register.
Police reported the suspect had twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood at the time of the deadly crash, police said.
Roberto Noe Monfil Xitlama, 18, of Orange, was reportedly southbound on Tustin Street when he failed to stop for a red light at Collins Avenue. His vehicle crashed broadside into the passenger side of a westbound red Toyota Rav4 occupied by two adults and two teens. The driver in the Toyota had a green light, police said.
Police arrested the 18-year-old man on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
The suspect did not have a valid driver’s license with him, but he did have a Mexican passport.
The case remains under investigation.
