1 Killed, 2 Injured in Head-on Car Crash on State Route 99 at E. Hamilton Road in Oroville
OROVILLE, Calif. (Jan. 5, 2018) – A 28-year-old Oroville man died early this morning in a head-on crash on Highway 99 at E. Hamilton Road, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The traffic accident was reported about 6:07 a.m. between a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup and a 1996 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicles were blocking the southbound lanes, but debris was strewn across the northbound lanes. Caltrans closed down the roadway in both directions at Hamilton due to both lanes being blocked.
Paramedics were called to assist those who were injured. The survivors of the crash were identified as 36-year-old Ryan Woodson, who was driving the Suburban, and 38-year-old Guillermo Hernandez, who was driving the Ranger.
Both vehicles required tow trucks to remove them from the scene.
Most collisions involving a head-on crash occur because one driver crossed over the center divide into the path of the other driver. It’s up to investigators to piece together evidence at the scene to determine which driver was at fault. In some cases, there may be criminal charges filed against a driver who is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding or violating traffic laws.
At the conclusion of the investigation, anyone who has suffered an injury or the family of a loved one may pursue a claim seeking compensation for current and future medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering and more.
