Fatal Pedestrian Accident 205 Freeway, Grant Line Road in Tracy
Man, 36, Struck, Killed on Freeway in Tracy
TRACY, Calif. (Nov. 14, 2023) — A truck driver was killed in a pedestrian accident on the Interstate 205 Freeway in Tracy after he stopped to help a driver in an overturned vehicle.
The 36-year-old Patterson man died in the 3:45 a.m. collision on Saturday, Nov. 11th, just west of Grant Line Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver of a Peterbilt truck reportedly pulled over onto the shoulder. The Patterson man then exited his semi-truck and walked over to help a driver stuck in an overturned Toyota pickup truck. The pickup had crashed due to unknown circumstances in the No. 2 lane of the freeway.
However, the truck driver realized he couldn’t help the victim in the overturned vehicle so he started to walk back to his parked truck. That’s when an oncoming driver in a 23-year-old Modesto woman driving a red Kia sedan struck him in the No. 3 lane of the roadway. She told authorities she was looking at the parked vehicles and didn’t see the pedestrian.
The report did not mention if the driver from the Toyota was injured in the rollover crash, but the Modesto woman from the Kia had minor injuries.
Liability for the fatality crash remains under investigation.
