Woman Killed in Pedestrian Accident Near a Bus Stop
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Nov. 28, 2023) – A mother died and her 8-year-old daughter remains hospitalized after a Thanksgiving Day pedestrian accident near a bus stop on 83rd Street in South Los Angeles.
The deadly collision occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23rd at 1758 W. 83rd St., just east of Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. A female driver was exiting a liquor store parking lot when it was struck by a second vehicle. The car went off the roadway and up onto the sidewalk where it struck the woman and child near a bus bench.
Paramedics responded and rushed three people with major injuries to a hospital. One woman later died at the hospital, but her 8-year-old child remains in the hospital with major injuries. The driver who caused the crash was also hospitalized with major injuries.
Police later arrested the critically injured driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The case remains under investigation, but initial findings are that speed was also a factor.
