Possible Hit-and-run Fatality Crash on US 101
KING CITY, Calif. (August 21, 2024) — A pedestrian died in a car accident on Highway 101 near Broadway on Wednesday morning in the King City area.
The deadly collision occurred on southbound US 101 near the Salinas River Bridge at 7:05 a.m. on August 21st, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch report.
A call to 911 reported a pedestrian lying on the ground in the center divide and a woman getting out of a white SUV on the right shoulder with traffic damage, just head of the victim.
King City police and fire units responded to help the pedestrian, but unfortunately the person suffered fatal injuries on scene.
It appears a driver involved in the crash exited the freeway and or fled the scene and police are on the lookout for the suspect and vehicle.
Later authorities said they may have located the responsible party, but there are no further details.
The case remains under investigation and the identity of the person who died will be released after their relatives are notified.
