Fatal Pedestrian Accident Highway 38 (Big Bear Boulevard)
Suspect Sought in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on SR-38
BIG BEAR, Calif. (August 31, 2026) — A deadly hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred early Monday on Highway 38 at Greenway Drive in Big Bear. The incident was reported at approximately 7:09 a.m. on August 31st, when a vehicle struck a worker and fled the scene, heading eastbound on Big Bear Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency responders arrived at the location shortly after the incident. Despite efforts by fire personnel to perform CPR, the individual, who reportedly sustained major lacerations to the face, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:04 a.m. Authorities have confirmed the fatality, designated as Incident No. 0148.
The suspect vehicle is described as a gray Toyota Tundra that was last seen traveling toward Yucaipa. The vehicle is believed to have a traffic cone wedged underneath and damage. Also, there were reports of it swerving erratically on the roadway before the collision.
San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol are actively investigating the case. They are seeking assistance from the public to locate the driver of the suspect vehicle. Witnesses are urged to come forward with any information they may have regarding this incident.
