Man, 61, Killed in Crash on State Route 58

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Dec. 27, 2023) — A 61-year-old California City man died on Christmas Eve in a pedestrian accident on Highway 58 in Bakersfield.

A driver in a semi-truck struck the victim at around 1:13 a.m. on Dec. 24th, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Highway 58 near Tehachapi Boulevard, the police report said.

The 23-year-old Fresno man driving the tractor trailer truck told CHP officials the 61-year-old California City man was standing on the highway after apparently being involved in a separate collision.

The truck driver was not able to avoid hitting the victim, despite efforts to avoid the collision.

The unidentified 61-year-old man died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol is heading up the traffic investigation.
