CHP Officer Hits Pedestrian on State Route 92

SAN MATEO, Calif. (Sept. 21, 2023) — A fatal pedestrian accident involving a California Highway Patrol officer’s vehicle happened on Highway 92 at Delaware Street on Wednesday night in San Mateo.

The CHP patrol officer struck the victim around 10 p.m. on Sept. 20th in the eastbound lanes of Highway 92, the report said.

Authorities reported the pedestrian allegedly ran across the roadway into the path of the white marked patrol car and was hit by the vehicle.

The CHP reported the driver stopped and began searching for the victim after the collision. The pedestrian was located and was unresponsive. The unidentified person died on scene.

Investigators are working to determine fault for the pedestrian accident on Highway 92.

Finally, the roadway reopened to traffic after the investigation ended just before 4 a.m. on Sept. 21st.
