Deadly Crash Involving Pedestrian on Highway 99

LOS MOLINOS, Calif. (Jan 6, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian accident happened Saturday morning on Highway 99, at Marek Road in the Los Molinos area.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a driver struck the victim at around 5:45 on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025.

The Tehama County Fire Department responded, but the pedestrian had already died at the scene.

Meanwhile, Jose Luis Vargas Moran, 42, of Anderson, who was driving the 2020 Toyota Corolla, stopped his vehicle and cooperated with authorities.

Detectives with the Red Bluff Police Department closed down a southbound lane of Highway 99 East to conduct their investigation.

Authorities do not suspect alcohol and or drugs were a factor.

The Tehama County Coroner will identify the victim after relatives are notified.
