Pedestrian Struck, Killed on Highway 99 Near Hwy 58 in Bakersfield
KERN COUNTY, Calif. (August 9, 2022) — A fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 99 happened early Sunday morning just south of Highway 58 in Bakersfield, Kern County.
The collision occurred about 3:50 a.m. on August 7th, under the Planz Road overcrossing, according to Bakersfield Now and the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers say a woman was struck and killed by a motorist in a 2019 Honda as she stood or walked on Highway 99.
The driver was reportedly traveling at roughly 70 mph and attempted to avoid hitting the pedestrian in the No. 4 lane of the northbound Highway 99.
The side of the vehicle struck the woman and she suffered major injuries. Paramedics responded and rushed her by ambulance to Kern Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine if drugs and/or alcohol were factors.
