Fatal Pedestrian Accident Highway 99, Olive Drive in Bakersfield
Pedestrian Struck, Killed on State Route 99
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Jan. 4, 2024) — A driver struck and killed a pedestrian Tuesday night on Highway 99 near Olive Drive in Bakersfield.
The deadly crash occurred on the northbound side of Highway 99 at around 6:34 p.m. on Jan. 2nd, according to KGET and the California Highway Patrol.
The pedestrian was reportedly walking in the No. 2 lane of the highway when he was struck by an oncoming car. Upon impact, the victim was thrown into the path of a second vehicle and struck a third time by another motorist when he hit the ground.
Paramedics responded, but unfortunately the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver who first hit the pedestrian reportedly fled the scene. There is no immediate description of the suspect’s vehicle at this time.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the crash. Witnesses or anyone with information about the fatality crash, should call CHP at 661-396-6600.
