INDIO, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2023) — A fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened Tuesday night on the eastbound Interstate 10 Freeway near Indio.
The deadly crash occurred about 11:05 p.m. on Feb. 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police responded to the scene on the I-10 Freeway on Tuesday night, just west of state Route 86.
Sadly, the person suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified by the coroner as Bobby Canales, 47, of Indio.
CHP officials reported there were no vehicles at the scene or in the surrounding area, indicating the suspect most likely struck the victim and fled.
Investigators closed down all lanes of the freeway for roughly three hours to conduct an investigation into the fatality.
Finally, the fatal pedestrian accident on the 10 Freeway is still under investigation and witnesses are asked to call authorities with the CHP at 760-772-5300.
