Man Killed Helping Suspected DUI Motorist on 205 Freeway
TRACY, Calif. (Dec. 1, 2023) — A semi-truck struck and killed a Stockton man assisting an alleged drugged driver whose vehicle was stopped on the Interstate 205 Freeway.
The deadly crash occurred at around 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30th, just west of El Rancho Road, according to the California Highway Patrol Tracy office.
The victim reportedly noticed a disabled Honda Civic on the right shoulder of the westbound Interstate 205 Freeway. He wanted to help the person and pulled over his Honda Accord, stopping directly in front of the Honda Civic, Fox 40 News reports.
The man and a woman who was with him both exited the Accord and went to help the driver in the Civic. Once the Honda Civic started up, its driver reversed and backed directly into the path of an oncoming semi-truck.
The semi-truck hit the back of the Honda Civic and it went forward onto the shoulder and struck both pedestrians and the Honda Accord, the report said.
The Stockton man sustained major injuries and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police responding to the crash site determined the driver from the Honda Civic was under the influence of drugs and placed the motorist under arrest, the CHP said.
The crash remains under investigation and witnesses may contact the Tracy CHP Office at (209) 319-4300.
