RICHMOND, Calif. (July 18, 2023) — A pedestrian died early Tuesday in a car accident on the Interstate 580 Freeway near the Richmond Parkway off ramp.
The traffic accident occurred around 3:25 a.m. on July 18th, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
Police responded to the crash scene in the westbound middle lanes of the I-580 Freeway.
A driver in a 2023 Chevrolet 2500 box truck was on the right shoulder following the collision. The driver told authorities they did not see the pedestrian in traffic lanes.
The unidentified person suffered major injuries in the pedestrian accident and died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police issued a SigAlert due to all freeway lanes being blocked by emergency responders and police.
A tow truck removed the truck for evidence and a full investigation is underway. The freeway reopened to traffic around 5:41 a.m.
