
Pedestrian Struck by Two Vehicles on Nimitz Freeway
FREMONT, Calif. (May 17, 2023) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened on the Interstate 880 Freeway on Wednesday morning near the Mowry Avenue West on ramp.
The deadly crash occurred on the Nimitz Freeway around 12:16 a.m. on May 17th in Fremont, according to the California Highway Patrol dispatch.
A driver in a red Jeep Cherokee called 911 to report hitting the unidentified person in the No. 4 lane of the freeway. The motorist stopped and waited for police to arrive. However, a second vehicle also ran over the victim in the roadway, police said. The black Nissan Altima also pulled over and stopped.
Police and paramedics responded to the northbound side of the I-880 where they located the pedestrian. Sadly, the person died at the scene and authorities called in the Alameda County Sheriff Coroner. The age, gender and identity of the person is unknown at this time.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles for evidence. The case remains under investigation to determine fault.
