One Killed, One Injured in Pedestrian Hit-and-run Crash in Gardena

GARDENA, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2024) — A fatal pedestrian accident happened Sunday in Gardena at Marine Avenue and Budlong Avenue.

A driver struck two pedestrians at around 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 11th at the Gardena intersection, according to KTLA 5 News.

The driver was reportedly traveling eastbound on Marine Avenue and hit the two pedestrians walking in the crosswalk as car turned north onto Budlong Avenue, the report said. The grandmother and her grandson were walking together in the crosswalk.

Paramedics responded and pronounced 5-year-old Patrick Chacon of Gardena dead at the scene and took his grandmother to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Authorities did not release the victims’ ages, genders or identity, but the deceased will be identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The Gardena Police Department’s Traffic Bureau is heading up the investigation and searching for the suspect who fled.
