MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (August 7, 2024) — A driver struck and killed a woman pushing a shopping cart Tuesday night along Merced Avenue near Bloss Avenue near Delhi in Merced County.
It happened just before 9:30 p.m. last night on August 6th in a remote area northwest of Delhi, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP investigators reported a 50-year-old man driving a vehicle northbound on Merced Avenue struck the victim who was walking with a shopping cart on the right dirt shoulder. The motorist told authorities she turned into the path of the oncoming vehicle.
The roadway is paved with one traffic lane in both directions, but the shoulder where she was reportedly pushing the grocery cart is not paved.

The woman’s identity was not released, but she is presumed to be about 50 years old and was from the San Jose area.
The driver stopped and is cooperating with police officers and the ongoing investigation.
