Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Santa Fe Drive Near Winton in Merced County

MERCED COUNTY, Calif., (June 4, 2026) — A car accident early Thursday morning resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Santa Fe Drive at Mercedes Avenue north of Winton in Merced County.
The collision occurred on June 4th at approximately 4:53 a.m. when a vehicle reportedly struck a pedestrian at the intersection. The involved vehicle, identified as a black Honda Civic, sustained major front-end damage as a result of the impact.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and Merced City Fire Department personnel, were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Despite their efforts, the male pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, succumbed to injuries at the scene.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police say the driver was westbound on Santa Fe when they were passing a slower vehicle and struck the man. The motorist pulled over, and someone called 911 for help.
Traffic on Santa Fe Drive was temporarily disrupted as investigators closed the roadway between Eucalyptus Avenue and Mercedes Avenue to gather evidence and clear the roadway. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
