Woman, 88, Dies in Hospital after Pedestrian Accident in Shasta Lake
SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. (June 7, 2024) – An 88-year-old woman died two days after being struck by a driver in a Cadillac sedan in a pedestrian accident on Shasta Dam Boulevard in Shasta Lake.
The traffic accident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. on Monday, June 3rd, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and a report by Action News Now.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to Shasta Dam Boulevard and located the injured Shasta Lake woman with serious injuries.
Police reported the woman was attempting to cross Shasta Dam Boulevard and was walking outside of a crosswalk.
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured pedestrian to a hospital, but she later died on Wednesday due to her injuries.
Investigators working on the case determined Pamela Verhanes, 57, of Shasta Lake, was traveling westbound in the Cadillac when she hit the woman in the roadway, just west of McConell Avenue.
Furthermore, the driver’s vehicle had items dangling from the rear-view mirror that may have obscured her vision through the front windshield.
Police cited the driver for traveling at an unsafe speed and for the obstructed view in her windshield, but there were no arrests.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation into the pedestrian accident in Shasta Lake.
The case could still be taken up by the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office for review.
