Woman, Girl, 6, Hit By Vehicle Near Hancock Park Elementary School
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (April 25, 2023) — A 35-year-old woman died and a 6-year-old girl was critically injured in a pedestrian accident on West Colgate Avenue in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles.
UPDATE: Woman killed in crash on Colgate Avenue ID’d as Ghadah Abduljabbar, 33, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff Coroner.
The deadly crash occurred around 7:55 a.m. in front of 6275 W. Colgate Avenue near Hancock Park Elementary School, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
A man driving a white Nissan Titan pickup truck struck the woman and child in a crosswalk at Colgate Avenue and South Ogden Drive. The intersection is near South Fairfax Avenue. The speed limit here is 25 mph on weekdays when school is in session, but the driver was allegedly speeding at the time of the deadly crash, police said.
The driver hit the pedestrians and then collided with a light pole and a nearby two-story apartment. Paramedics responded, but unfortunately the woman was found deceased on scene. Meanwhile, the child was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The unidentified girl is a first-grade student at Hancock Park Elementary School.
The unidentified 30-year-old man driving the vehicle suffered moderate injuries in the crash.
Police are reviewing the circumstances and will determine what charges will be filed against the motorist.
