PEDESTRIAN DEATHS ON THE RISE

The Governors Highway Safety Association is projecting a 17% increase in fatal pedestrian collisions in the first six months of 2021 in the United States.

Indeed, over the last decade, pedestrian fatalities are up roughly 45 percent across roadways in America, according to a study analyzed by the federal safety association.

The GHSA analysis determined there are 1.04 pedestrian deaths per 100,000 people in the U.S. This is up from the previous two years.

It’s believed the uptick in deadly pedestrian accident is driven by a that a combination of dangerous driving, motorists driving larger vehicles, inadequate infrastructure as well as roadways designed for vehicles, without regard to the safety of pedestrians or bicyclists.
