Pedestrian Killed in Pickup, Semi-Truck Crash on I-215 Freeway
PERRIS, Calif. (May 17, 2022) — A pickup truck and semi-truck collided in a fatal Perris crash on the northbound Interstate 215 Freeway.
The collision occurred about 10:18 a.m. on May 17th, just north of Nuevo Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the two-vehicle crash led to the temporary closure of the northbound traffic lanes. The driver of a red Toyota Tacoma pickup truck reportedly drifted onto the shoulder of the freeway and collided with a stopped white International box truck and a pedestrian.
The pedestrian had been an occupant of the semi-truck who stopped to refill the radiator with the help of a companion. The victim was securing the hood latch on the driver’s side of the truck when the Tacoma struck them.
The man suffered major injuries and was reportedly found laying on the right shoulder of the freeway following the crash. The driver in the pickup truck reportedly stopped following the crash, police said.
Police issued a SigAlert due to the crash and called for two tow trucks to remove both vehicles.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash and liability.
