One Killed, One Injured in Crash on Highway 138 in Phelan
PHELAN, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2024) — One person died and another was badly injured in a car accident on Highway 138 near Dusty Lane Tuesday night in Phelan.
The traffic accident occurred around 5:36 p.m. on November 12th, just west of the I-15 freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Paramedics responded to the scene and located one man lying half-naked in the roadway and a driver of a grey 2024 Tesla Model 3 with a smashed windshield pulled over on the right shoulder, the report said. There was also a person hanging out of the driver’s side door of the vehicle.
It’s unknown if the person in the roadway was hit by the Tesla or thrown out of it, the CHP report said.
Medical crews were unable to save the man in the roadway who died at the scene. The name and age of the deceased person was not released.
Authorities closed down the westbound lanes of Highway 138 due to the crash and removal of debris from the roadway.
A second person suffered major injuries in the crash and was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Finally, the San Bernardino County Coroner will release the identity of the person who died after they notify their next of kin.
