Fatal Reseda Crash on Vanowen Street, Chimineas Avenue

One Dead, Eleven Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash. Driver, 21, Arrested

RESEDA, Calif. (Feb. 26, 2024) — A 21-year-old driver was arrested Sunday after a fatal, multi-vehicle crash on Vanowen Street and Chimineas Avenue in Reseda.

The deadly crash occurred at around 11:18 a.m. on Feb. 25th, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The drivers of a white Dodge Charger and a yellow Chevrolet Camaro were reportedly traveling east on Vanowen Street at high speed, fire officials said. Nicolas Velasco Marcos, 21, was driving the Charger and allegedly changed lanes before he collided with the yellow Camaro, according to ABC 7 news. Both motorists lost control of their vehicles and crashed with two other vehicles and two parked vehicles. Also, a fire hydrant was sheared off by one of the cars.

The 32-year-old Reseda man driving the Camaro was trapped in his vehicle and reportedly died at the scene.

Meanwhile, two other people became trapped in one of the vehicles and they were rescued by firefighters using the Jaws of Life.

Six of the eleven people who were evaluated by medics were transported to hospitals and the others declined further treatment.

Nicolas Velasco Marcos was among the injured and was taken to a hospital hospital with minor injuries.

However, police investigating the crash later arrested him and booked him on murder charges. His bail is set at $2 million.
