Hit-and-run Fatality Crash in Rio Linda
RIO LINDA, Calif. (Sept. 15, 2023) – A fatal Rio Linda pedestrian accident involving a hit-and-run driver happened Thursday night at Elkhorn Boulevard, just east of Rio Linda Boulevard.
The deadly crash occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials says a driver struck a man in the roadway and failed to stop. The motorist continued driving and left the man down in the road, CBS News reports.
Meanwhile, a second driver in a white Chevrolet SUV swerved to avoid hitting the injured pedestrian and veered off the road into the front yard of a nearby home, the report said.
Metro Fire of Sacramento sent paramedics to the scene, but sadly the pedestrian died at 9:53 p.m. before they could take him to a hospital.
However, the second driver suffered major injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, police said. It’s unknown if the small child traveling in the vehicle with him was hurt or not.
Authorities closed down Elkhorn Boulevard, just east of 6th Street in both directions to conduct an investigation into the collision.
CHP officials say the hit-and-run suspect may have been driving a silver Pontiac.
Finally, the age and identity of the man who died and the injured motorists were not released at this time.
