Fatal Rollover Crash I-5 Freeway, Near Avery Parkway, Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO, Calif., (June 16, 2026) — A tragic accident early Tuesday morning in Mission Viejo resulted in a fatality on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway near Avery Parkway.

The incident occurred on June 16th at approximately 3:03 a.m., when a vehicle reportedly overturned on the roadway, coming to rest on its roof roughly 100 feet down an embankment on the right shoulder. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) log indicates that the vehicle was overturned, and the party was unresponsive.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the accident was reported. Despite their efforts, the individual involved in the crash was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Tow services were requested to clear the scene, with Aliso Viejo Tow and additional services mobilized to assist with the recovery of the vehicle and any necessary evidence collection.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the CHP. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
