Fatal Rollover Crash on Haley Street Off-Ramp SR-178 in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (June 13, 2025) — A deadly rollover crash early Friday morning left at least one person dead and shut down all lanes of traffic near the Haley Street off-ramp at State Route 178 in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The crash occurred at approximately 1:02 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of SR-178 near the Haley Street exit. Authorities say the incident involved two vehicles, both of which rolled over. One of the vehicles came to rest on its roof in the middle lanes, while the second vehicle was found on the right-hand shoulder.

Emergency crews, including firefighters and medical personnel, responded quickly to the scene. Despite their efforts, at least one fatality was confirmed, prompting the notification of the Kern County Coroner’s Office. The coroner was estimated to arrive about an hour later, according to CHP radio communications.

All lanes were blocked during the investigation and cleanup efforts. Tow trucks from Payless Towing and Randy’s Towing were dispatched to remove the wrecked vehicles from the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved.
