Deadly Crash on Highway 183 in Salinas
SALINAS, Calif. (June 3, 2022) — A fatal Salinas crash involving a truck happened Friday morning on the southbound side of Castroville Road also known as State Route 183.
The deadly, two-vehicle collision occurred about 4:29 a.m. on June 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 47-year-old Holtville woman driving a Ford reportedly crossed the broken yellow line in the opposite lane. She allegedly collided with a Lincoln Continental driver by a 74-year-old man. The Ford spun around and collided with a farm labor bus.
One of the vehicles remained on the roadway after the collision, but the truck reportedly overturned in a nearby field. Smoke was coming from one of the vehicles following the collision.
Paramedics responded due to major injuries to the Holtville woman resulting from the crash. They transported her by ambulance to a hospital. The woman suffered a fractured hip and the man driving the Lincoln died following the Salinas crash. The 74-year-old Castroville man has not been identified.
Tow trucks removed both vehicles due to damage and they will be stored as evidence, the report said.
Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the crash.
