 Fatal Salinas Wrong-Way Crash Highway 101, Old Stage Road Wrong-Way Driver in Head-on Crash on Highway 101 in Salinas

SALINAS, Calif. (Oct. 12, 2022) — A fatal head-on crash on Highway 101 near Old Stage Road Tuesday afternoon in Salinas involved a stolen Salinas Orange Taxi.

A driver in the stolen taxi cab was traveling in the wrong direction prior to the head-on crash Tuesday, Oct. 11th, according to KSBW 8 News.

The suspect was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 when the vehicle collided into another motorist.

Caltrans closed down the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at Old Stage for the investigation.

The taxi cab company reported a car jacker ordered the taxi driver to get out of their vehicle and drove away.

Meanwhile, a police pursuit ensued between the suspect and the California Highway Patrol. They chased the stolen taxi cab for a short distance but disengaged once the suspect began driving recklessly, the CHP said.

One person died in the crash, but there are no further details.

Investigators are working on the case.
